This customer success story explains how the Beast Screed System is a fast, simple, and reliable way to improve floor levelness. Floating cow patties are a thing of the past for W&N Development.
GMS Concrete in Phoenix knew it had the right product -- Drago Wrap Vapor Intrusion Barrier -- for the right conditions: a brownfield redevelopment of an apartment building where soil conditions tested for Trichloroethylene (TCE), a volatile organic compound (VOC) dangerous to human health.
But GMS Manager Matthew Medina also knew his product selection would only be as good as his installation, which is why reserves a specialized crew of his most experienced installers to work with new products and accessories. His most seasoned team members were accustomed to going out on projects that were different and broke the usual routine.
In the case of a vapor intrusion barrier, any holes, punctures, or other passageways for the soil conditions to pass into the building envelope could present failure. That’s why for the first time, his crew used Beast Concrete Accessories to protect their careful installation of Drago Wrap.
For the concrete forms around the site, GMS would traditionally drive stakes into the ground, creating punctures in the membrane. Beast Foot allowed them to adhere a durable pad to the vapor intrusion barrier without punctures, while Beast Form Stake – when placed into Beast Foot – allowed them a lightweight replacement to the metal form stakes they would traditionally use. The result: no punctures in their vapor intrusion barrier.
His team also used Beast Screed to complement their wet screeding with a laser level. Beast Screed provides a fixed elevation, point-to-point screed guide system to allow concrete placement crews to move quickly through the screed work without the use of inaccurate cow patties.
According to Medina, their success using a new system relied on:
