SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. – Avoid the use of stakes driven through the vapor retarder. For more than two decades, Stego Industries has echoed these critical instructions directly from ASTM E1643 – Standard Practice for Selection, Design, Installation, and Inspection of Water Vapor Retarders.
The industry leader in below-slab barrier materials introduced yet another innovative concrete accessory Thursday to protect designers’ and contractors’ vapor barrier installation: BEAST® FORM STAKE.
Beast Form Stake is a lightweight, durable and reusable composite stake for concrete formwork, where concrete slabs require additional hardware to create elevation changes in the slab. When used with BEAST® FOOT, Beast Form Stake allows the installer to support concrete formwork without driving metal stakes through the critical membrane protecting the slab from water vapor and other soil gases.
“Concrete formwork is critical to slab design, but brutal on below-slab membranes -- none more than the metal stake,” said Beast inventor and National Product Manager Steve Lutes. “Beast Form Stake provides superior functionality over a metal stake by eliminating the need to search for a usable nail hole and protects the vapor barrier from punctures when used with Beast Foot.”
Using the innovative SpeedTrack™ Fastening Grooves, Beast Form Stake can be fastened to a form board at any height along the stake, rather than the very few fixed nail holes on traditional stakes, which require additional time to position so they are located in the correct spot. The grooves, on four edges of the round stake, also allow for countless fastening points along the edges with nails or screws for reuse.
